A 70-year-old woman has died after reportedly falling through the ice on Lake Winnipegosis, RCMP confirmed.
Winnipegosis RCMP received a report around 1 p.m. on Thursday that the woman, who had gone for her usual walk with her two dogs, had not returned home. Concerned family members searched the area and found one of her dogs sitting alone on the ice.
Emergency responders, including RCMP and the local fire department, launched a search in an area with open water. The woman was eventually found under the ice and recovered. She was transported to Dauphin hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
RCMP continue to investigate.

After initially facing threats of permanent closure in 2020, it seems that Toronto's Dakota Tavern is done for good this time.
The venue at 249 Ossington Street closed last October to undergo renovations after changing ownership, and according to CityNews reporter Lindsay Dunn, numerous industry sources have confirmed that it will not be reopening.
The previous owner told CityNews that, after the pandemic lockdowns, the Dakota "just couldn't generate enough revenue to stay open in its current form."
Author David McPherson, who has written books on both Massey Hall and the Horseshoe Tavern, posted on his blog that the venue will become a sports bar — which CityNews has not been able to confirm with the new owners.
The Dakota Tavern was operational for over 16 years, hosting the likes of CanCon royals the Sadies, Broken Social Scene and Blue Rodeo.

Swift Current residents and community members are being advised of a bridge closure in Swift Current to allow for flood barricade placements in high-priority areas.
The historic Lee Lam Bridge, also known as the Blue Bridge, is closed, effective Friday, March 21.
Ryan Hunter, fire chief for the Swift Current Fire Department, noted that the barricades should be set up for seven to ten days or until it's been deemed safe.
"Our area that's most low-lying in the city is called Piper's Addition, which is by the Blue Bridge on the south side," he shared. "It's a narrow point where that bridge is so it creates a pinch point and chunks of ice get blocked up,
"Therefore, the water gets forced to go around and into the neighbourhood, so that's our first priority."
Folks heading to Piper's Addition can follow the detour on 17th Avenue South East to Dahl Street, detour signage has been has been put up.
The second area of high flood risk is around Connaught Drive and Riverdene Park.
"We anticipate that we're going to watch the water levels and the weather, we may start to put some barricades up there in the middle of next week," Hunter said in regard to the second location.

The City of Swift Current is planning to stay vigilant and respond as necessary to tariffs
Be they tariffs from the United States, China, or anywhere else in the world, staff are closely monitoring the effects happening in Swift Current. One of the most observable at the moment is the U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum. Industry producers that utilize those materials, such as S3 Group, AGI, and various machine shops, are how the City sees these effects. When their production lines and prices are adjusted to match tariffs, it gives the City insight into how other tariffs may play out.
Swift Current Mayor, Al Bridal. is confident the City will be able to avoid 'rocking the boat', so to speak.
"I can't change what President Trump does," said Bridal. "I can't change what Prime Minister Carney does. All I can do is try to make sure that as a city here, we try to keep things as steady as we can."
Bridal predicts that there may even be opportunities in Swift Current for industry growth and expansion. As the trade ware goes on, the market will continue wanting to buy Canadian, rather than American. Items previously produced in America will begin production in Canada, so long as their is enough incentive and demand.
For Swift Current, that means there is a chance people may want to open shop and begin producing products that are adjacent to existing production lines. One example Bridal used was sliding aluminum and glass doors, commonly used for the entryways to malls, businesses, and other facilities. Bridal highlighted how the raw materials to construct these items are commonly used in Swift Current but are often shipped for assembly to the United States where they are sold.
"Why are we not making some of that finished product in Canada?" asked Bridal. "We need, as Canadians, to look at doing a lot more of this stuff ourselves."

Let me start by saying it's extremely weird of people to be clowning on Selena Gomez and benny blanco because they think she's hotter than him, especially when you could just clown on them for their boring ass music.
Gomez, while not really a great singer, makes an okay pop star ("Love You Like a Love Song" and "Hands to Myself" are both undeniable bangers), but her biggest crime is not giving us much to latch onto most of the time. Such is true on the single she and blanco dropped today with release of their collaborative album, I Said I Love You First.
"Younger and Hotter Than Me" is a boneless ballad about the insecurities that come with aging and wondering if an ex is with someone (or multiple people) who are better than you. Which, while valid, is strange subject matter on a single when you're trying to convince the internet to like your partner. It's unfortunate that FINNEAS helped produce it, as some moments sound like when you have water stuck in your ear and also tinnitus at the same time. The song is still less humiliating than having a part in Emilia Pérez, so at least there's that.

The Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives has released a new report detailing the decline in local news media over the last 16 years, indicating Newfoundland and Labrador has seen the worst of it.
The report, which tracked changes to 2,900 news outlets across the country since 2008, says this province has seen “cataclysmic losses of local print outlets.”
Outside St. John’s, they say the province lost three quarters of its news sources in the last 16 years.
The fact many small towns and rural areas have a single, local outlet, typically a newspaper, translates into a 100 per cent decline in print outlets for those communities, said the report.
Meanwhile, based on an index that the centre has created, they say St. John’s has seen some of the least news deprivation out of larger cities across the country.
They say that’s because the capital city is a “regional hub” that produces broadcast content that serves the rest of the province.
On a national scale, the centre says the country has lost 11 per cent of print media outlets since 2008, including newspapers and online, and a loss of nine per cent of broadcast media outlets in the same timeframe.
The overall result of the changes, according to the report, is that 2.5 million Canadians now live in a postal code with only one, or no, local news outlets. It says that accounts for seven per cent of the total population, up from three per cent 15 years ago.

WINNIPEG — Manitoba plans to begin collecting retail sales tax on cloud computing services and software next year.
Beginning January 1, 2026, PST will be added to software subscriptions, data storage, and remote computer processing. Examples of such services subject to the tax include web hosting, Apple iCloud storage or a Microsoft 365 subscription.
The move is expected to generate $4 million annually for the province and was quietly revealed in Thursday’s 2025 budget.
The province says the change comes as a result of technological changes that have occurred in the industry.
Businesses, both resident and non-resident to Manitoba, will be required to register to collect retail sales tax on these services.
A registry to verify a business’ RST number will be developed and implemented by the end of 2025.

Here's the most confusing album you'll hear today: former Saturday Night Live cast member Kyle Mooney has release a bizarre album called The Real Me under the name Kyle M. It's out today.
The Real Me is an ultra-rough album that sounds a bit like it was entirely written and recorded in roughly the same amount of time it takes to listen to (which is 20 minutes). Most of the songs are slapstick genre exercises: it's got faux-cowboy ballads ("Kid on the Range," featuring the lyric "I'm just a lonely cowboy who will never be a cowman"), a goofy electronic ditty about how phones are bad, rockabilly ("Blue Car"), a smooth soft rock slow jam ("ILY") and more.
All of these bizarre half-songs songs are delivered with a tentative, tuneless sing-speak delivery, full of heavy breathing into the microphone and strange pronunciations (with "me" sounding more like "mih," for example). The overall effect is a bit like the naïve twee of the early aughts — think the Moldy Peaches, but even sillier and willfully rough-sounding.
The question we're all asking: is this comedy album? Is it intentionally bad? Is this actually the real him? Whatever the case, the album is available to buy on vinyl through Stones Throw Records, an extremely real label, technically making him labelmates with J Dilla and Madvillain.
