A Charlottetown man who was charged with assault after shoving P.E.I.'s housing minister during a heated public meeting in July was back in court Wednesday.

The Land household at Summerside’s Wedgewood Manor has declared an outbreak of COVID-19.
For the time being, visitors to that household are restricted to three partners-in-care for each resident, with only one partner-in-care present at a time. Visitor restrictions will remain in place until the outbreak is declared over.
All partners-in-care will be asked to follow the current infection control measures, and stay away if they are experiencing any symptoms of respiratory illness.

Hundreds of area residents gathered at Birchwood Intermediate School on Tuesday night for a neighbourhood meeting hosted by Charlottetown Police to discuss crime and safety concerns in the city.  Residents voiced concerns about the proximity of the Community Outreach Centre on Euston Street to schools, and what children have been exposed to during walks to and from school, specifically pointing to drug-use and needles.  Others talked about homes being broken into by individuals looking to sleep; as well as drug-use and threats.  Charlottetown Council recently voted unanimously to ask Charlottetown Police to develop a plan to address crime and illicit drug-use in the city.  Charlottetown Police Chief Brad McConnell says police will be more visible with foot patrols and they will take a stance of zero tolerance in regards to trespassing on private property.

Over the past week, Police made four arrests in two incidents resulting in the seizure of several types of drugs, and a gun. Last Thursday, Prince District Joint Forces Operations Unit executed a search warrant at a home in Summerside.  Police seized crack cocaine, hydromorphone, crystal methamphetamine and cash. A Prince County man and woman were arrested for possession for the purpose of trafficking drugs and will soon appear in court.  On Tuesday night, Kings District RCMP conducted a traffic stop in Saint Mary’s Road and arrested two Kings County men and seized cocaine, a long barrel firearm and cash. Both men are expected to appear in court soon to answer to drug and firearm related charges.

Charlottetown residents who are witnessing public drug use, dealing with damaged property, and feeling unsafe in their community as a result, expressed their frustration at a public meeting led by police Tuesday night.

Kings District RCMP are turning to the public for help in their investigation of the stolen vehicle.  Sometime between the morning of August 30th and August 31st, a grey 2017 Ford Explorer with PEI license plate #525WY was stolen from a home in Sturgeon.  If you have any information on the theft, contact Kings District RCMP or PEI Crime Stoppers

RCMP say they have received several reports of shots fired across the province over the last few days.  The Mounties remind Islanders that the September Goose Hunt Season is in effect and goes from September 1st to September 15th.  Hunters are required to maintain a distance of at least 200 meters from any dwelling. RCMP stress that no reports of shots fired have been found to be connected to the Seacow Pond sword attack investigation.

A strong turnout of volunteers Tuesday for a ground search of the Mount Stewart/Pisquid area.  The search was organized by The Native Council of PEI in the effort to locate 27-year old Summer Kneebone, who was last seen in Charlottetown on August 7th.  The latest update from Charlottetown Police indicates that she was a passenger in a vehicle that appears to have been a dark-coloured 2016 Acura MDX.  The Native Council of PEI says it has been in communication with Charlottetown City Police on her disappearance, and to aid in search efforts, the Native Council conducted the ground search yesterday. 

A new project has just launched on P.E.I. focusing on removing barriers for salmon and other fish in Island streams. The work has started elsewhere in Canada, but beach access and beavers are two different challenges being faced on Prince Edward Island.

Police are warning residents of Prince Edward Island not to believe everything they see on social media as the search for the Seacow Pond sword attacker continues.

Dozens of volunteers searched the area around Mount Stewart, P.E.I., on Tuesday, clinging to the hope that they will find 27-year-old Summer Kneebone alive.

Holland College has been selected as a key partner in the Skills Enhancement for Newcomers program, which is aimed at preparing newcomers to better enter the workforce.  Through the two-year national program, the college will provide training in the form of microcredentials.  Microcredentials are short, flexible courses, that will equip newcomers with the essential skills sought after by Canadian employers.  The microcredentials are offered at no cost to eligible newcomers and the courses can be completed online.  

Photos including a banner with a child's name, age, grade and school tend to pop up on social media feeds around this time of the year. The RCMP says the pictures are not as harmless as some parents would think.

He attacked a woman and a youth and then fled on foot. The youth suffered minor injuries, while the 42-year-old woman suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.  The third person was not injured.  The RCMP Major Crime Unit has been working following up on tips.  PEI Ground Search and Rescue as well as RCMP Police Dog Section have conducted searches in the area of Seacow Pond, looking for evidence.  The man is described as approximately 5’10” wearing a dark mask and possibly a green hoodie. With the Labour Day weekend over, some Charlottetown business owners say they're watching the weather and hoping the fall tourism season will stay strong.

Acting on rumours that Summer Kneebone could be in the Mount Stewart area, the Native Council of P.E.I. is co-ordinating a ground search of that region for the missing woman, starting Tuesday morning.

Towers Road, the back entry to Royalty Crossing, will be closed on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. as construction on a multi-use paved pathway continues between Mount Edward Road and the mall. Other closures may be needed in the coming weeks as work continues. Local traffic will be accessible on Towers Road. 

The man who injured two people with a sword on Seacow Pond Beach near Tignish on Friday night is still at large, as the search enters a third day.

Dr. Jason Chan says people with the chronic condition tend to have a tougher time during the flu season as there are additional triggers in the environment that can cause flare-ups.

RCMP in West Prince continue a search for an armed and dangerous man who attacked three people with a sword on Friday evening at Sea Cow Pond Beach. The police operation is into a fourth day. 

The Mounties say a man about 5-10 wearing a dark mask and possibly a green hoodie attacked three people. A  42-year old woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries, a teen suffered minor injuries and the third person was not hurt.

RCMP Constable Gavin Moore says they believe it was a random incident.  The motive behind the violent attack is not known.

The suspect left on foot.

RCMP continue the investigation with police dogs in the Seacow Pond area near PEI’s northern tip. PEI Ground Search and Rescue is also involved.

Police are looking for the identity of the suspect.

The kids came up big as the Toronto Blue Jays got by the Colorado Rockies, 7-5 to stay 1.5 out in the American League wild card race.  Whit Merrifield and Ernie Clement delivered key RBI singles in the 9th. Spencer Horwitz had three hits including a homer and drove in two runs.  Vladdy Jr. got his 21st homer and drove in two. Davis Schneider doubled and drove in a run.

Toronto opens a series in Oakland this evening. 

Texas edged Minnesota, 6-5  as Adonis Garcia homered in the 9th. Mitch Garvey hit two homers and drove in four among his four hits. The Rangers stay ahead of the Jays and are tied with Houston in the wild card race. Both teams are one back of Seattle in the AL West.

Canada advanced to the quarterfinals and qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics by coming back twice defeating reigning champion Spain, 88-85 in the FIBA World Cup in basketball. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led with 30 points and was in on the last 17 points for Canada in the final quarter. Canada outscored Spain, 27-12 after trailing 73-61. Canada makes the Olympics for the first time since 2000 and is 4-1 going to the playoffs.

Lithuania surprised Team USA, 110-104.

Acadia scored six goals in the second half and shutout UPEI, 7-0 in exhibition women’s soccer.

The Panthers and Acadia tied, 2-2 in the men’s game.

A man accused of attacking a woman and youth on a beach in northwestern Prince Edward Island remained at large Sunday despite reports on social media that he had been arrested.

Many businesses and all government offices will be closed on Monday which is Labour Day.

A number of restaurants and bars will be open but you should call and check ahead.

There will be no Canada Post service Monday.

No Island Waste Management pick-up which will be collected next Saturday.

T3 transit will not be operating. 

The main shopping malls in Charlottetown and Summerside will be closed.

Some pharmacies will be open.

PEI Liquor Control Commission stores and Cannabis stores will be closed.

Public libraries will be closed on Monday.

A nervous night in the northwestern part of PEI.

Residents have been asked to keep doors locked and to remain vigilant as a manhunt continues for a man who is believed to be armed and dangerous.

RCMP continues to search the area for the man after an attack at Seacow Pond Beach the night before.

One nearby resident who was outside last evening, says on social media that she saw a person with a dark mask near a farm field and quickly went inside and locked the doors and windows and called police. The masked person went back into a wooded area on what might have been an ATV.  

RCMP arrived and began to search the area.

 Here’s how things unfolded beginning on Friday night just after 9.30. 

The Mounties began looking for the suspect who was armed with a sword and attacked three people  at Seacow Pond Beach.  

The suspect was wearing a dark surgical mask and carried a sword. He attacked a woman and youth and then left on foot.   The third person was not injured.  Constable Gavin Moore of the RCMP says they were approached on the beach by an unknow man.

The 42-year old  woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries while the young person suffered minor injuries. Any motive behind the attacks is still unknown.  Constable Moore says this type of attack is “exceptionally rare” in PEI.   

The sword was described as “large, clearly sharpened weapon.”

An alert was issued during the evening  which was later  dropped.

The suspect is about 5-10 and was wearing a mask and possibly a green hoodie.

RCMP have several units, a police dog and drone searching in the area.

Jimmy Buffett has died at age 76.

A statement says he passed away last night peacefully surrounded by family, friends, music and dogs.

The cause of death has not been disclosed.  Buffett had been hospitalized several times in recent months and had to cancel live appearances. 

His biggest hit was “Margaritaville” released in 1977.

He was set to release a new album later this year.

He was known for his charity work and philanthropy.

Buffett recorded PEI musician Lenny Gallant’s song “Mademoiselle (Voulez-Vous Danser)  in 2001 in Florida.

Charlottetown Police are looking for the driver of a vehicle which  missing 27-year old Summer Kneebone was seen getting into the night she disappeared on August 7th in Charlottetown. She was last seen walking on University Ave. that afternoon on surveillance video. 

Police say she was with an acquaintance. 

They believe she got into a car in a parking lot on University Ave around 6.50 on Monday, the 7th.

They want the driver to come forward.

Detective Sgt. Darren MacDougall would like that person to contact police as the search continues.

The RCMP is  responding to an active incident involving a dangerous person who injured another using a sword in the Seacow Pond Beach area overnight. 

The Mounties have cancelled an alert issued Friday night as they continue to search for the suspect.

The person at large has been reported to be going through several yards in the area.

He’s about 5 feet tall and was wearing a mask and was on foot. 

Police say there is no immediate threat to the public but are asking residents to keep doors locked and stay inside.

A strong police presence remains in the area as the hunt for the suspect continues.
