Last fall, the QEH Foundation announced a campaign to fund a CT scanner for the QEH emergency department.
In just a matter of months, the generosity of donors has seen the Foundation raise the full $1.3 million cost of that sophisticated piece of equipment. The CT scanner is used for the diagnosis of critical illness, injuries and trauma, and to assess the extent and severity of a condition. The procurement process for the new CT scanner has begun and it is set to arrive at the QEH later this year.
The QEH Foundation’s Friends for Life campaign continues, raising funds for other priority medical equipment.

After two days of Advance Voting, 14-percent of the more than 42-hundred eligible registered electors have cast their ballot. There is still one more day for Advance Voting, which is this Friday from 9am – 7pm.

The second of three Advance Polling Days in the District 19 Borden-Kinkora by-election is today. Voters can cast ballots at the Bedeque United Church from 9am to 7pm. The third and final Advance Poll is Friday with those same hours of 9am to 7pm, and thre same location. Elections PEI reported voter turnout of 10.55-percent for Saturday’s first Advance Poll with 446 eligible voters casting their ballots. There are 4,228 eligible voters for the by-election, with the Ordinary Polling Day set for one week from today – Monday, February 5th. Voters in the district who aren’t sure of where they can vote on By-Election Day, can check the Voter Information Card they received in the mail, or the Elections PEI website www.electionspei.ca

A total of 446 voters cast ballots Saturday in the first Advance Poll for the District 19 Borden-Kinkora By-Election. That’s a voter turnout of just over 10-percent of the more than 42-hundred eligible voters. There are two more Advance Polling Days at the Bedeque United Church – Monday from 9am to 7pm and Friday, February 2nd from 9am to 7pm. Ordinary Polling Day is on February 5th. You can check that Voter Information Card you received in the mail, or the Elections PEI website to get the details on your voting location.

Charlottetown Police Chief Brad MacConnell has announced that an arrest has been made and charges laid in the November 11, 1988 murder of 36-year old Byron Carr.
Late Thursday morning, Charlottetown Police arrested 56-year old Todd Joseph Gallant of Souris, who is also known as Todd Joseph Irving. Police say they have significant forensic evidence to believe that he is responsible for the death of Byron Carr. Police say Gallant, who also uses the name Todd Joseph Irving, was 21 years old at the time of the murder and believed to have been living in the Charlottetown area at the time.
On Friday morning, an information was filed at the provincial court, charging 56-year old Todd Joseph Gallant of Souris, also known as Todd Joseph Irving, with one count of First Degree Murder, and one count of Interfering with Human Remains.
A second individual was also arrested Thursday morning in connection with the case. However, MacConnell says that individual was released late Thursday afternoon. The investigation is continuing to determine what, if any, involvement in the activities involving Byron Carr’s death. Police are not releasing any identifying information about that person at this time.

The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission has approved an increase of 2.0 cents per litre in the price of regular gasoline.
The price of furnace oil decreased overnight by 1.0 cent per litre, and there’s no change in the price of diesel. Propane prices increased by between 2.5 and 4.0 cents per litre.
Including taxes, pump prices for regular self-serve gasoline now range from 160.5 to
161.7 cents per litre, while diesel still costs between 198.3 and 199.4 cents per litre.
The maximum price for furnace oil is 142.8 cents per litre. Propane prices range from 85.3 to 87.5 cents per litre.

Queens District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 12-year-old Ocean Habbi, who was last seen early Wednesday evening in Charlottetown. Habbi is described as 5-foot-3, average build, long brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a black FX coat with red trim, blue jeans, a dark sweater/hoody, and beige boots. Habbi was originally reported missing to Charlottetown Police on Wednesday and RCMP took over the investigation on Thursday. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ocean Habbi is asked to contact Queens District RCMP or Crimestoppers.
