Halton Regional Police Service got to a Milton residence as a home invasion was underway, and rounded up four suspects

Thursday, at 4:54 am three male suspects broke through the front door of a residence in the area of Clark Boulevard and Thompson Road South. Once inside the suspects went upstairs where they confronted the four family members which included a young boy. A large knife and a screwdriver were brandished by two of the suspects who threatened the family demanding cash, jewelry and car keys.

HRPS officers got there and located the suspects’ Chevrolet Volt parked in front of the residence. The suspects attempted to flee and struck a police vehicle, however police officers were able to safely immobilize the suspect vehicle and arrest the male driver. The three remaining suspects fled the residence on foot but were quickly tracked down by HRPS officers in the immediate area and arrested.

Investigation determined the Chevrolet Volt was stolen from Durham Region in early February.

The family members did not sustain any physical injuries.

As a result of the investigation three adult males and a male young offender face a string of charges. Shivam Miglani (25) of Brampton was on probation as was Gurpreet Singh (28) of Brampton. Also charged was Jalen Harriott (18) of Ajax and a 17-year-old from Mississauga.

All accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.

Fifty per cent of the last 20 Ontario high school girls basketball championships have been won by Hamilton area schools.

They’re a prime recruiting ground for university teams and that was very evident when the McMaster Marauders hosted the University of Western Ontario Mustangs in a playoff game Wednesday night.

Six of the 18 players who saw time on the court (33 per cent) were groomed here.

McMaster won the first-round matchup 55-47 to advance to the next round against the undefeated Carleton Ravens in Ottawa on Saturday.

The Ravens are ranked first in the country, just ahead of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, coached by former Mac star Lisa Thomaidis, who lives in Dundas.

Twin sisters Keira and Nicole Daley, who led Cathedral high school to several Ontario championships, are playing this year for the sixth-ranked University of British Columbia Thunderbirds and their cousin Rachel is with Western as a bench player.

Emily Frankovic led the way for Mac with 18 points and Cassie Joli-Coeur contributed 14.

In her final university game, former Mac star Jenna Button had 15 points and eight rebounds for Western. Following a four-year stint with the Marauders Button, a product of Dundas Valley secondary school, transferred to UWO for graduate studies.

Button and McMaster guard Deanna Mataseje were both workhorses, each playing 38 minutes.

Amy Stinson (Westdale), Grace Ammendolia (St. Thomas More) and Mataseje (Bishop Tonnos) were on the winning side.

Besides Button, Emily Capretta (St. Thomas More) and Payton Baker (Dundas Valley) played for Western.
