On Saturday, at approximately 11:20 a.m., local law enforcement responded to a call at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Stan Bailie Drive to conduct a welfare check on several occupants.

Initial reports suggested that one individual at the scene might be in possession of a firearm.

Upon arriving at the location, officers, discovered an unconscious adult man in a common hallway of the building.

While assessing the individual, a handgun fell from the man’s waistband onto the floor.

Officers promptly secured the weapon, a Glock 43X 9mm handgun with a loaded magazine containing 9mm ammunition.

The man was arrested without incident, and the firearm was seized as evidence.

No injuries were reported, and officers were able to verify the wellbeing of the other involved parties at the scene.

The arrested individual initially refused to identify himself. However, following a fingerprinting process conducted by the Forensic Identification Unit, his identity was confirmed.

The man was later identified as 21-year-old Malcom Christian Lado, of Winnipeg.

Lado now faces multiple charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to gather details surrounding the incident.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact local police.

Christmas Cheer Board

WINNIPEG — The Christmas Cheer Board still has more to give this holiday season.

Officials ordered more food than usual this year, and there are additional hampers to give out to families in need.

“With numbers projected to shatter last year’s record applications, we ordered extra food to make sure we didn’t run out this year,” said executive director Shawna Bell on Sunday.

“Since then, our application numbers have slowed down and we find ourselves in a position of having extra food hampers (approximately 500) in the last days leading up to Christmas.”

The Cheer Board is encouraging other organizations across the city to let their applicants know that if they haven’t already applied with the Cheer Board, they can call (204) 989-5683 to apply.

New applicants will need to come to the Cheer Board location at 895 Century St. to receive their food hamper.

The warehouse will be open leading up to Christmas on Monday, December 23 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, December 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hours will resume on December 27-28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for pickup only.

“When you have what you need, you build a bigger table. That’s what we’re all about,” added Bell. “Happy Holidays to everyone!”

Any leftover items will be donated back into the community, such as to Harvest Manitoba and similar groups in need of extra food.

A small plane crashed into a Brazilian town that’s popular with tourists on Sunday, killing all 10 passengers and crew on board and injuring more than a dozen people on the ground, Brazil’s Civil Defense Agency said.

The agency in a post on X said the plane hit the chimney of a home and then the second floor of a building before crashing into a mobile phone shop in a largely residential neighborhood of Gramado. More than a dozen people who were on the ground were taken to hospitals with injuries including smoke inhalation, with two said to be in critical condition.

It is not immediately clear what caused the crash.

Local media reported that the passengers were members of the same family and were travelling to Sao Paulo state from another town in Rio Grande do Sul state.

Gramado is in the Serra Gaucha mountains and popular with Brazilian tourists who enjoy the cool weather, hiking spots and traditional architecture. The town was settled by large numbers of German and Italian immigrants in the 19th century and is a popular spot for Christmas vacations.
